You Me He She It

My contribution to the Bachelor graduation show was a temporary wall construction built inside the sculpture center ā€¯Skulpturens Husā€¯ in the outskirts of Stockholm. It was an attempt to make a large scale collage, resembling a panorama or artificial landscape where all my characters and aesthetical categories at the time could be incorporated. Among them were flyers transferred to large format paintings, a mountain with snow, a formation of cheap mirrors in plastic frames, pictures from old cook books and three animated videos with paper dolls, manga characters and comic punch-lines. The work, made during my first three years in art college, reminds me of feeling threatened by the new intellectual environment, and defending myself through entering deeper into a ā€¯girlyā€¯ identity. I guess it was my way of challenging existing artistic hierarchies and orders.
