Paris (By Heart)

 

2009, b/w foldable poster-map, 80 x 50 cm, based on essay, 40 x 25 cm, published in EX 1000 cm2 Art Magazine

”Paris (By Heart)” is a contribution to the first issue ”Situ” of the editorial project EX 1000 cm2 Art Magazine, started by French artist and architect Guillaume Aubry. The first issue was launched at Gallery Intuiti in Paris in October, and includes printed art works by eighteen French and international artists. Called Ex Situ, the issue evolves around the site of the gallery, and takes place within the urban context of the neighbourhood. The map is the base of the question which is explored through the project: how can a territory be en-activated through a work based on it’s mapping representation? In ”Paris (By Heart)”, with kind contributions from the artists Clara Djian and Nicolas Leto, the area is explored and recalled in a personal and associative narrative. By use of images and fragments of texts, the reader is invited to a make a route or wandering in the area, together with the writer. A kind of derive, in which a research on Paris' geographical areas is continued. contributions The work has been transformed into a foldable poster-map, in which the collage is printed on one side and the map of the area in black and white on the other. It is shown together with the magazine and another publication in the exhibition Labyrint 09 - Writings and Observations at Botkyrka Konsthall, Stockholm.
