2004, silent mechanical installation, mixed media/50cm x 50cm x 100cm, Konstfack University/Stockholm
Constituting another archive, this time of my clothes, bags and shoes in 2003, this work (as ”Flyers…”) questions what an archive, collection or document is or should be. It investigates (female) identity and roles in society as well as the art world, and describes a complex and dualistic relationship to fashion and consumption. Affirmative to its function as a playful tool in the creation of identity, in which we investigate and express various sides of the self by switching in and out if different roles and worlds. The aesthetics of the work references today’s obsession with perfection, desire and surface, and combines fashion with music culture and the exposure of commodities in shops. The installation’s five white plinths with replicas of white turntables, had white-painted vinyl records with sticker-sized photographs of clothes slowly spinning on top.
