Five images in mixed media, 50cm x 40cm x 1.5cm, Galleri Konstfack, Stockholm 2003. The installation with five images mounted on mdf board is an attempt to investigate and depict my grandparents’ home in the north of Sweden. By bringing together authentic pieces of wallpaper and documentary photographs of the environment and arranging them in a fictive, imaginative way I wanted to examine my relation to the place. A fascination with the architecture and decoration styles, but also personal memories and experiences guided the work. The place was built and decorated by my grandparents and looks like a dollhouse, with small rooms, a mix of different styles and a do-it-your-self spirit. By observing and portraying details of the furniture, wallpaper, fabric and paintings I tried to create a tension between familiar and unfamiliar, truth and construction, surface and content.
