Avtryck. Men vädret på radion var Högtryck.

4 screenprinted fabric banners, 1.3m x 4-6m, hung on the façades of Konstfack University, Stockholm, 2007. The master project takes as its starting point an interest in site, history and passed time, how it effects us and exists in the present. The area around the college has been shaped by Ericsson and the emergence of communication technology, the idea of the Swedish welfare state and suburb. Ylva Eggehorn describes the post war ambience of the fifties in her book ”Kvarteret Radiomottagaren”, as she experienced it during her childhood. Through a poetic language and a narration grounded in the personal experience, the author pin-points a spirit of the times more efficiently than many analytical texts. By transferring quotes from the book to banners on the façade of the college, I wanted to use the language and strategies of political resistance as well as promotion to create a link to the past of the area. The texts become voices from the past and represent a sort of messages we normally don’t see in the puplic urban space. Home-made and time-consuming manufacturing refers to do-it-your-self culture and demonstration banners, old typefaces and newspaper headlines, and to promotion signs from the fifties. Bringing together different time-layers and investigating boundaries between private and public was important to the work. Pictures also from Wip:Konsthall, Stockholm.
